Something to Do: Movies

The genre entry is Dave Made a Maze, and indie fantasy which has been quietly winning awards at film festivals for a while now. I suspect it won’t be getting a lot of screens across the country, so you may have to hunt for it if you want to see it. The Hitman’s Bodyguard isn’t […]

Something to Watch: Discs

This week brings the latest in the long running franchise with Alien: Covenant. By the time this one hit the theaters I had seen everything I needed to see of that universe, so I haven’t seen it yet, and feel no compulsion to do so now. I do love every one of the films that […]

Daoko: Big Fireworks, the theme song

The latest Daoko song, just posted today, is called Big Fireworks, and is the theme song for the new animated motion picture Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom?. The film opens in Japan on the 18th of this month, and is a remake of a 1993 live action drama of […]

Something to Watch: Discs

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is the epic fantasy option in Western film releases this week, and I didn’t find anything genre-like in Anime. This might be a good weekend to start watching something new on a streaming service; I think I’ll begin Restaurant to Another World.

Something to Do: Movies

The short answer is Steven King’s The Dark Tower is the one genre film this week, and I won’t be in the audience.

Something to Watch: Discs

It didn’t come anywhere near me in its limited theatrical run, so Colossal has to be at the top of my personal list this week. It looks amazing in the trailer, and the premise is not one I have ever heard of, so I have to see it. Also this week The Circle is technology […]

Mary and The Witch’s Flower trailer

The heir to Studio Ghibli is Studio Ponoc, and they are about to roll out Mary and The Witch’s Flower, their first feature film. It is good to know this kind of quality animation will continue to be created.

Something to Do: Movies

We get nothing this week that is definitively genre, but we do get animated silliness in the form of The Emoji Movie, and a kick-ass spy flic with Atomic Blonde. We also get Wolf Warrior 2 bringing the rest of the high-adrenaline level excitement for the week, and Mubarakan has the corner on romantic comedy […]

Inhumans trailer

Marvel’s Inhumans starts running on ABC on September 29th, but they will have a sneak peak in IMAX movie theaters on September 1st which I will have to see. In the meantime, here is their new trailer, fresh from Comic-Con.

Bright Trailer

It is Comic-Con weekend again, and the trailers are everywhere. This one is for Bright, a Netflix exclusive movie about an alternate universe LA, where humans share the world with a huge range of Magical creatures. Staring Will Smith as a cop who was not ready for what he finds himself in the middle of, […]
