Just a few tracks from the world class Tokyo Ska Paradise to travel with you on your journey through this holiday weekend, starting with their 2009 release Pride Of Lions. The next song is a collaboration between Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra and Asian Kung Fu Generation called Wake Up which came out this past June, and I admit that was not a combination I saw coming. Finally, 2013’s 10 Feet to keep you dancing through the weekend. If you are a fan of Ska, this is a band you should seek out and listen to more of; they have a huge library of music for you to explore.

Eterna from Vadzim Khudabets of Behind The Epic has got to be one of the most amazing jobs of video editing I have seen this year. Since he does trailers for a living, this has to be his version of a demo reel. If you haven’t already seen this, nothing I say can possibly prepare you for it; enjoy, and morn the fact that you will never be able to sit down in a theater and watch this movie.

I wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday, from Merry Christmas to Happy Hanukkah and everything in between. I hope 2014 has been a very good year for you, and that the new year brings you one even more enjoyable.
One of the things that I enjoy about this season is the lights and festive displays. Last year I was in the UK for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, and since it took place near the end of November the city of London was fully decked out in anticipation of the holidays. I took quite a few photos there, since everywhere I looked seemed to have one holiday decoration after another. Sadly I am not a very good photographer, and a lot of the pictures I took didn’t turn out very well. So it was a good thing my companion on that journey is an amazing camera person with a true eye for what makes a great photograph; thanks to her skills and efforts, I have a few holiday images to share with you today. In North America in 1982 there were a limited number of companies fighting for the home computer market, and with 20-20 hindsight it is obvious that Apple was the winner of that battle. But my own system of choice that year had the same overall computing power, plus a few dedicated chip sets that meant superior 8 bit graphics and sound processing. Plus it had a built-in programming language that made it easy to create your own audio/visual sequence complete with text overlays. This is the state of the art Christmas demo sequence from Commodore that year, and if you remember what any of the other systems available at the time could do, it will be obvious why I thought this one was the way to go. As anyone who has stood at the bottom of the Earth’s gravity well and pointed their camera up can tell you, the kind of pictures an Astronaut can take from orbit will far surpass that. In this video, Astronaut Don Pettit gives you an idea of what is involved, and what you might be able to achieve. Knowing this, all you have to do now is achieve orbit, making sure to bring your camera with you.
This week the Disney film Into The Woods is going to corner the musical comedy fantasy market I suspect, and I will no doubt be in the theater to check it out on the big screen. Also, The Imitation Game finally goes into wide release. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, this telling of the life of mathematical genius Alan Turing has been nominated for 5 Golden Globes, on top of the 23 awards it has already won.
