Toriko looks to be silly fun, with a bit of old-school animation. Japan in general, and Tokyo in particular, has always had a population of oversized beasts of various kinds (Insects, Lizards, and Amphibians) roaming the countryside and stomping on buildings. Toriko is the legendary Gourmet Hunter, out to capture and kill these creatures and eat them, while Komatsu is the timid chef who’s goal it is to turn them into diner, one after the other. Episode one of the series aired in Japan a few nights ago on the 14th of April at 6PM PST, and new episodes become available each week at that time, being simulcast on both Funimation and Hulu.
Here is the latest Cowboys and Aliens trailer, this time with enough actual dialog to start giving you a feel for the characters as the film will present them. Release date for this one is July 29th, and each new goodie like this just makes me that much more ready to take the ride.
Maybe. Certainly this trailer, which contains no actual porn, makes it look like someone may have finally made a Star Trek Porn Parody worth watching. Take a look and make your own decision. Thanks to the folks at io9 for the heads up on this one.
If you missed Super when it hit the big screen Friday before last, don’t feel alone. It got a very limited run, much less than it deserved. Which is why the IFC VOD project was started. With Video On Demand, Independent films that formerly were only heard of can now be seen by a much wider audience almost as soon as they are released. Go to the IFC web page and select your provider to find out if you can see it now. They started Super today, and they launch 1 to 2 new independent titles per week. It is a great way to keep up with new quality films that break the Hollywood mold and tell a different kind of story.
Besides the Yuri’s Night App I mentioned yesterday, another great way to track all your best Space buddies on tonight’s 50th anniversary of man in space is using NASA Connect. On that link you will find all the best Social Media interfaces to them, including Twitter, Facebook, UStream, Foursquare, and MySpace. There are also links to their YouTube, Flickr, and Gowalla sites you should bookmark and visit. They have some in house communication resources like NASA Tweetup and NASA Chat where you can sometimes find entire gatherings of people during various events. And that is without mentioning NASA Apps, NASA Blogs, and NASA e-Books. Bottom line, this is the single place you need to be able to find to connect and collaborate with NASA.
When the clock hits midnight we kick off Yuri’s Night, celebrating 50 years of manned space flight. April 12th, 1961 is when Yuri Gagarin became the first human to leave this planet, and there are parties all over the world to celebrate, as there are every year. You can check out what events are close to you at the Yuri’s Night Web Page, or through your phone. For the phone, the Apple App can be found here, or just search the apps store. With any other flavor got to the Yuri’s Mobi pages.
