According to this story in Variety it looks like there will be a big budget film version of Doctor Who hitting the big screen soon. They signed up David Yates as director, no doubt based on his last four movies (the last 4 Harry Potter films to be specific), and Jane Tranter, currently head of L.A.-based BBC Worldwide Productions and formerly in charge of the Doctor Who reboot in 2005. Thanks to SF Crowsnest for the heads up on this one.
There are two options this weekend; the one that appeals to me is Happy Feet 2, more animated penguin silliness. The one I will be avoiding like the plague? < href="http://www.breakingdawn-themovie.com/">The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, for reasons I am sure you can imagine.
Tad William’s classic fantasy Tailchaser’s Song is going to be made into an animated feature, and what encouraged me that they might stay true to the feel of the book is the animation production house, IDA. If International Digital Artists doesn’t ring any bells for you, they are the team that put together Cat Sh*t One, based on the manga of the same name. That is a brutally realistic combat animation starring special forces bunnies; unfortunately, all the legal copies of the trailer for that animation I could find include advertisements of one type or another, but I think you will be impressed by the quality of work once you get to the trailer itself. Thanks to Crunchyroll for the heads up on this one!
The Avengers film isn’t coming out until May of next year, but there is already another trailer for it that makes me wish it was coming out this weekend. I would be worried that it might not live up to the hype surrounding it, but it is Joss at the helm this time, so I feel confident.
Immortals hits the big screen this weekend, bringing the ancient Greek tale of Theseus and King Hyperion to life. Mickey Rourke gets to play the evil king in this epic. Also out this week, Melancolia, in which the relationship between two sisters is strained by the giant planet about to smash into Earth.
Short and to the point, the Hulk vs. Ewok video is a hoot. Or perhaps you would prefer the Chuck Norris vs. Stormtrooper footage, which takes place on the same planet. Finally, a Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Light Saber Fight just to show earthlings can be silly too.
