I like the choice of Spider-Man: Homecoming as the title for the new movie, since this will be the first film featuring Peter Parker since they got the rights to the character back in the MCU stable. And looking at the trailer we are in for a fun ride when it hits the big screen on July 7th, 2017.
This is the week we finally get Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a movie I have been waiting for all year. There is also supposedly the 2014 Fantasy called The Garden that my be finally coming to some theaters, but I didn’t see enough evidence of that to make me very confident. Not that it really matters to me, since I will be at the Star Wars film.
The second trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 makes me realize just how much I want to see this movie. It should be a serious hoot!
The first major public event for the new live action Ghost In The Shell took place several weeks ago in Tokyo, and has been posted online by a number of folks; the one used here is from Germany’s Movie Maniacs team. This was the event where they released the first full trailer, and also did some interview time with actor/filmmaker Beat Takeshi (Takeshi Kitano) and actress Scarlett Johansson, both of whom were named. Also on stage for the interview was director Rupert Sanders, only named Rupert in the video segment, with actor/interviewer Chris Peppler of NHK fame doing the Master of Ceremonies job and asking all the questions. They start the video off with the musical segment that accompanies the Shelling of the Ghost footage led and directed by composer and musician Kenji Kawai, who they also never named. I figured it was appropriate for me to name everyone correctly here.
This is a teaser rather than a full trailer, but it does give you an idea of what the Live Action version of Fullmetal Alchemist is going to look like. Sadly I couldn’t find a version with English subtitles I could post here, but if you go to the home page I linked they have one you can watch.
There isn’t much this week, with the non-genre Office Christmas Party about the only thing that looks interesting. This might be a good time to catch up on anything you missed that is still in the theaters, or to go re-watch a favorite. A favorite I intend to catch is the Spirited Away: 15th Anniversary presentation from Fathom Events tonight at 7PM.
