The Last Days on Mars is a UK movie which is borderline horror and very much a thriller, but it includes some actors I like and some excellent production values. It has been out for a while on iTunes so will only be in a limited number of theaters, but I think it will look good on the big screen. Likewise the Canadian film Ice Soldiers only gets a limited run, also includes some actors I like, and has a very tasty looking trailer. Finally, the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part III: The Rebellion Story will also be doing a limited run on American screens this week. The American offering this time around is Implanted, which did not look quite as interesting as the others when I viewed the trailer, so I will be waiting for that one to hit a streaming service to see it.
Coming out on Wednesday rather than Friday this time, Frozen looks like a fun ride. If the trailers are anything to judge by, this one looks a lot like Tangled, which I really enjoyed.
I have to mention Day of The Doctor first, which will be in a whole bunch of theaters in 3D in 75 countries around the world, all playing at the same time it is going to air on BBC1 in the UK. This is the 50th anniversary special itself, and you can watch it online, in the theaters, or on TV, for a complete list check out the Day Of the Doctor listing. The other film this weekend is The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which should also be a lot of fun.
It is difficult to get an arch-enemy when you are hours or days old, but somehow Sleeping Beauty managed to pull that off. Maleficent is the story of how that came about, kind of the prequel to Disney’s 1959 classic fairy tale animation. It will be hitting the big screen on May 30th 2014, starring Angelina Jolie, and being just a bit more live action then the last Disney film on the topic.
There really isn’t anything interesting I could find coming out this week, but that’s OK. There were so many great movies released in the last two weeks that the odds are good you haven’t seen them all. I am going to try to catch About Time and Man of Tai Chi before they disappear from the theaters.
This one should be fun, in an Indie kind of way. Her is about a specially designed artificial intelligence, custom built for the end user, and the poor schmuck who has to spend the rest of his life with her. Sometimes our Evil Robot Overlords are also our better half.
