The one film that looks like fun this week is Mickey Virus, a Bollywood comedy about a computer hacker, his tomboy sidekick, his imaginary girlfriend (which he programmed into a computer game), a whole lot of police, and the computer hackers he has to stop.
This one looks very tasty, I Frankenstein has the monster as the hero, much as Dean Koontz portrayed him. This isn’t quite the same one, as this is based on the Darkstorm Studios graphic novel I, Frankenstein created by Kevin Grevioux.
This week Big Ass Spider looks like the camp comedy winner, with several of my favorite actors in it. The Carrie remake is also this Friday, proving yet again that religious brainwashing, school bullies, and telekinetic power are not a good mix. My favorite choice this time around has to go to Chinese Zodiac, with Jackie Chan leading a team of mercenaries out to recover the stolen artifacts.
Rurouni Kenshin looks like it should be quite a tasty story; an assassin who is now just a humble wanderer, seeking the life he would have chosen had the option been his. When his past hunts him down, he is forced to return to his old ways to protect his friends and family, as best he can. I suspect the hunters are going to regret their actions. While far from the only variation on this plot line, this is one of the better done. Check it out and let me know what you think, and if what you are thinking is it should have been an Anime, it was, back in the 90s. It was a Manga before that, and quite an enjoyable story in any format.
Escape from Tomorrow looks to be truly surreal, a black and white excursion into the bizarre that I feel confident was NOT approved by Disney (in fact, they even say that). But even though I suspect it will be in limited release, I will absolutely have to see this one on any device I can get it on, because it just looks that interesting. another one I would like to see is CBGB, a film about the classic punk club in NYC. And speaking of NYC, that’s where you have to be this weekend if you want to see Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, specifically at the New York Comic Con
This animated treat is going to be hitting the big screen come Thanksgiving; Frozen from Disney. I definitely get the impression that this is the same team that did Tangled, which I loved, so I will be in the theater for this one.
