While some folks might scratch their heads wondering why I am posting this, the answer is very simple. We need to nurture that sense of wonder at the earliest possible age if we want to see the next generation take us to the stars, and before we can do that, we need to nurture the children of that generation grow into the best possible version of themselves they can be. Nobody understood this the way Fred Rogers did, or understood all the implications of treating a child with love and respect so they would learn how to give as well as receive it. He also understood the need for producing children’s television with a desired end result of something much more important than selling the most number of boxes of sugared cereal without any regard of what that programs content would end up teaching the child. The children really are our future, and Fred was willing to go up before congress to get the funding needed to do the right thing.

The folks at Noitamina TV (Midnight TV, a branch of Fuji TV), has a new show coming out called Robotics: Notes. It begins airing on October 11th or 12th depending on which time zone you live in, and is the 3rd in a series of scientific anime’s from Production IG. It takes place in the same world as Chaos; Head and Steins; Gate, two excellent sci-fi anime series. I am hoping Crunchyroll carries it so I can watch it here. Thanks to Danny Choo for the heads up on this one.

Word from Deadline Hollywood is that Marvel and ABC have signed off on creating the pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D, the live action TV series. Joss Whedon is supposed to be co-writing it, with his brother Jed (Dollhouse, Doctor Horrible) who will also be directing. Joss always had the best TV series going (Buffy, Firefly, you can name the rest as well as I can), and I can not wait to see his work back on the small screen again. They pretty much started production when they left the room after signing the contracts, so it may just be available fairly soon. Thanks to TOR for the heads up on this one.

Announced this past Saturday, Continuum has been renewed for a second season. Lots of other great announcements out of Fan Expo Canada, which ran in Toronto over the last weekend. For those of us who have been missing out because we live in the US, it was also announced Continuum will be coming to a major U.S. network, but no clues yet which one it is. Supposedly they will start with season one and dovetail straight into season two, which is kind of a clue that they won’t be hitting the screen any time too soon, since they just got the go-ahead to start production on season two. Still, I can’t wait!

Yes, next Saturday night we have a new Doctor Who episode, Asylum of the Daleks, on both BBC UK and BBC America. This episode kicks off season 7 of the New Who series, and continues into next year, leading us to the 50th Anniversary Special. The BBC America trailer covers the season, the BBC UK trailer covers the episode, and I will be there to watch it! I am not one of the very limited number of people at the special screening of the episode in New York City tonight, but I don’t feel bad, because neither is Steven Moffat, and it is his show.
