A picture I took in London, and then processed a bit. This was a photo of Winchester Cathedral, processed as a watercolor/sketch combination. I obviously need to play with the processing some more to get the setting’s just right to create the image I have in my head, but this isn’t a bad start, all things considered. And it does have the advantage of being something I created and therefore own the rights to, so I can use it in other projects as I see fit. I am going to play with some others to see what I can come up with, and share some of them here.
Hope everyone is having a happy holiday season this year, and gearing up for another exciting round for next year. I thought I would share one of my favorite Elfbot images a good friend made of me. And before you laugh, trust me when I say this is no where near as silly as the one she made of me for Easter.
While I may be all about everything Sci-Fi and Otaku, I am wearing one of these human bodies and do have to fuel it like everyone else. But there is no reason that shouldn’t be fun, creative, and sometimes silly, and for that I find Bento and Sushi are the best ways to go. The first example here is the simplest I could find that totally gets the concept across; how to use those tiny sausages to make cute stuff for your bento box, including octopi. The second gives you a simple way to create Panda Themed Rice Balls, and when combined with the first video gives you a great introduction to bento box basics. The third looks at the use of egg molds to add that kaiwaii touch to lunch. The fourth is an example of creating a cute bear from fish patties and other stuff, although since I don’t like fish I make mine from potato pancake fixings.
The fifth is rather more ambitious; making a Sushi Panda Roll. Please note that even though the execution of this last entry takes a lot more time to get right, all of these are ways to bring a bit of extra enjoyment and entertainment to a meal. There are tons more ways to create good bento, and the overall balance of the box isn’t even mentioned here, but once you start down this path you will want to share your lunches just to watch others reactions to your creations. If you have kids this is also a great way to get Parent of the Year nominations from their friends, as they gain all kinds of recognition on the school grounds. The final video is just to give you a hint of what is possible, and inspire you to create your own; there are no limits! And for those worried about non edible items in a lunch, I promise food coloring on rice paper is both edible and non-toxic.
Darwin Fish keeps creating interesting time laps videos, and I am pretty sure the last one posted here was his life size Gundam rebuild (remember, a Gundam is much bigger than a human). This one is the new Tokyo Sky Tree, the new home of Radio and Television antennas in Japan’s most impressive city. These are actually several different stop motion studies edited into the finished product, and I find it quite visually impressive. Thanks to Crunchyroll for the heads up on this one.
If you appreciated the Doctor Who episode Vincent and the Doctor, you are going to love this. I should mention that the interactive part does NOT mean you can do this yourself with it, since it is just a streaming video. But I must add my voice to a bunch of folks, including Gizmodo, in urging the creator of this video to take the final step. The video is a capture of the authors results when he used an openframeworks environment to create an interface where he could edit in real time, for all of us to see. Now it needs to be converted to an App, suitable for running on I-Phones, Android, or Web-OS. I can’t wait to use it to create my own Sci-Fi favorite graphics files. *grin*
