There are a whole bunch of fun events coming up this weekend, and I wanted to mention a few of them. FaerieCon West is all about the art of Faeries, and while most of that is tied to various graphics formats, some is music, some is programming, and some is authoring. As an example, Abney Park will be hanging out and playing music at this Seattle event. If you don’t now who they are check out The Ballad of Ranch Hand Robbie and I’ve Been Wrong Before, both from their latest album (click to play, right click to save-as to disc). The other event I wanted to mention was the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival which has some amazing movies gathered together this year. Here are a few trailers to give you an idea of what they are up to…

With the full title Every Doctor Who Story 1963 to Now – A Babelcolour Tribute, this is a wonderful little video. And while any given show generally gets around 5 seconds of video, he really did manage to cover at least all the surviving stories, and gave the name and number of the ones that didn’t survive. Also included were various spinoffs, Children In Need specials, movies, parodies, games, and animations. There are a number of other Who tributes on the site you should check out; since I particularly like the Sarah Jane tribute, I am including that one as well.

2011 was an outstanding year, and for me personally the best single event during it was my excursion with a good friend to the UK. I couldn’t possibly list in detail all the things we did and saw, because it was non-stop and overwhelming. So instead I am going to post a few of the more memorable photos.

Happening tomorrow on x-mas eve at 9PM eastern on BBC America we have The Nerdist: Year In Review, hosted by Chris Hardwick. I am not quite sure how Chris became the definitive American nerd for BBC America, but we could be represented by a much less able spokes-geek and I for one am satisfied. The program includes guests Nathan Fillion and Will Wheaton talking about Firefly, a review of Neil Gaimon’s favorite Doctor Who moments, as well as David Tennant and Simon Pegg. Including the results of a two way competition for the Nerd of the Year Award, where you submit a video with your vote embedded in it. What makes it two way is the fact that three of the best videos (best as defined by a combined criteria of most convincing argument and overall geekery) will be featured on BBC America before the special airs.
