Another quality artist Live on KEXP in Seattle, Lady Lamb is a good vocalist/song writer with a couple of good musicians backing her up. They bring an energy to the stage that you don’t see very often these days, so take a listen and see if you don’t find something worth checking out and following.
Pretty much my favorite band out of Asia for the last few years, ONE OK ROCK has the chops, the attitude, and the skill set to own the rock world while based out of Japan. They started out around 2005, proving yet again that it takes about 10 years to become an overnight sensation in the music business. The first live track is called Decision, the second is Mighty Long Fall, then the official studio version of the latter song follows those. The live tracks are both from their recent Mighty Long Fall at Yokohama Stadium release, their 5th live DVD which they posted to their You Tube Channel. You have been able to get these tracks and others from them on iTunes for your permanent collection for a while now. But they signed with Warner Bros. Records recently, in a deal that includes releasing their work on CD and DVD in the US, starting with “35xxxv Deluxe Edition” in September. All songs will be in English, and the US version of the album will include two bonus tracks not on the Japanese version. They will be doing a North American tour in support of that release, with stops including Chicago, New York, Toronto, Silver Spring, and Houston.

The band is Kankaku Piero (Sense Clown, approximately), and their first album Break came out at the beginning of June. They aren’t as new as that statement might make you think, because they put out 5 mini-albums before this latest release. The first track is A-Han!, new on their first full album. The second song is Mary from their 2013 mini-album, or Mary-san as they say at the beginning, and it was re-released as part of the new full album. Likewise the third song, O P P A I is also both from 2013 and the new album, I am not even going to try to guess what that tune translates into. The final track is 2014’s Japanese-Pop-Music, also on the new album.
From the band Cocoro Auction comes the song Outburst of Crickets Chirping, which is pretty much a coming of age movie compressed into a few moments and given a light, J-Pop soundtrack. The next song is Summer of Phantom, a variation on the same theme, and equally worth watching/listening to. The final track gives us their 2012 release Nazonokusa, back when they were more rock and less pop.
This time around we are going to check out a few tunes from the band Good On The Reel, who released their 7th mini album just a few weeks ago. The first track is The King that was not accustomed to Shichiyo, posted this past May, the second is from last November and their 6th mini album, while the third is from their 2013 4th mini album Marivuron of Four Seasons. Then just one more, older still, from their previous record company and released in 2011. I think this band shows a lot of promise, so I wanted to make you aware of them so you could make up your own mind.
The Novembers are a Japanese alternative rock band formed in 2005 who have released 8 albums and an assortment of singles and EPs so far. Their sound is unique and complex far beyond what you would expect from so few instruments, reminding me of Pink Floyd or Brian Eno. Their acknowledged musical influences include David Bowie, Einstürzende Neubauten, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Jesus and Mary Chain, L’Arc~en~Ciel, Erik Satie, Stereolab, Nam June Paik, The Flaming Lips, and a host of other truly creative folks. They just released “TOUR Romancé” LIVE AT STUDIO COAST, and I thought this might be a good time to share a few tracks from them. The first one is Romancé, the title track of their current endeavor, the next is Xeno from the same project, the third is their 2014 release Meursault and the last is The Iron Dream from 2013. That was the same year they formed their own music label MERZ (not that you can do anything on that web page without a set of the deeper links), and a year after their music became available on iTunes. These are only a few of the songs they have to offer, if you enjoy any of these continue to explore their collection, you will find a lot more to like.
