The band is called Tommy Heavenly6, and the first track is called Ruby Eyes, while the second one is Monochrome Rainbow, one of the best Oxymoron titles I have heard in a while. They are doing straight ahead rock and roll, and they sound quite tasty. The singer, Tomoko Kawase, started in 1995 and spun herself off in 3 different genres. She does most of her work as the band The Brilliant Green, an Alt-Rock group, while Tommy Heavenly6 is her punk leaning music and Tommy February6 is where her Synth/Trance offerings live. I love her music, it is amazing.
Yes, it really happened several days ago; Lady Gaga and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu shared a stage on the hit Japanese music program Music Station, and it was hard to say who was more Kawaii. It was also hard to say what they thought about each other, at least from this bit of footage. Considering no one has a face in a Kyary Pamyu Pamyu video except Kyary Pamyu Pamyu herself, my bet would be she was not happy that someone else was taking center stage on the Kawaii platform, but this is only a small slice out of the show. I haven’t seen it myself yet, but hopefully the DVR has captured it and I will be able to watch it and come to a much more informed conclusion. The show airs on Friday nights in Japan, on Sunday in the US for those with NHK Premium. It is the one Japanese rock show that musicians from all over the world drop in to sing one of their songs while they are touring the country, and all the best J-Pop bands hit as often as they can arrange (AKB48 are pretty much the show regulars). Thanks to Crunchyroll for the heads up on this one.
The Pinballs are another excellent guitar based rock band from Japan. The first track is from their second album 100 Years On A Spaceship, and the second track, Ten Bear, is just as kick ass.
Another interesting Japanese band is The Flickers, the first track is White Heat from their 2011 mini-album Wonderground. The next track is Lovender from their new album released this past June. So is the final track, but I have not managed to figure out its name.
Yet again with a kick ass song and a great video, Avengers In Sci-Fi are an amazing group. This time around the songs start with Sonic Fireworks, and the visual storyline is every bit as good as the musical one. I wish every group did this well at presenting their creations. The next track is Yang 2, another world class piece of music coupled to another astounding video. This band is worth your time to check out, they have a bunch more music you will want to add to your collection.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu continues to produce surreal music videos in Akihabara and kawaii overdose clothing in Harajuku, and here is the proof. This video was posted on Wednesday and is called Mottainaitoland, and as always, Kyary’s is the only face you will see. The other track is also from this week and also a bit uptempo strange, the band CAPSULE doing their track Control from their new album CAPS LOCK.
