The NASA Valkyrie Robot looks like a useful toy to have to help build the Mars base, or any other non-terrestrial habitat. Unfortunately it didn’t do so good in the Darpa Challenge, tying for last place, but NASA JPL’s Robosimian came in at 5th place.
More than a trailer, a bit less than a featurette, it looks like they are doing a first class job of relaunching the Robocop franchise. And for the easily confused, no, this was not filmed at CES the other week. Looks like it could have been, though.
This one should be fun, in an Indie kind of way. Her is about a specially designed artificial intelligence, custom built for the end user, and the poor schmuck who has to spend the rest of his life with her. Sometimes our Evil Robot Overlords are also our better half.
The world just can’t seem to have enough Gundam, and the next series to launch is GunPla Builder, a tribute to all who build and fight the Gundam Plastic Model class of Bots. It is coming to TV Tokyo this October. Thanks to Danny Choo for the heads up on this one.
The new Fox program Almost Human kicks off on November 4th. It looks very much like a remake of >Total Recall: 2070, which was itself an amalgam of a number of Philip K. Dick’s more paranoid police state stories and the Isaac Asimov series of R. Daneel Olivaw/Elijah Bailey mysteries. Robot Daneel and his human partner Elijah were cops who were very good at solving locked room murders, although the “room” was generally a sealed habitat either in orbit or on a planet.
Yes, Robocop has been remade yet again, or is in the process at least, and I for one am looking forward to checking out the results. The Robocop 2014 regeneration looks to be a bit slicker than the original, which should allow them to make the sleaze and corruption even more obvious.
