SciFi Wire has posted what it claims is every science fiction trailer for the new Broadcast TV season. It certainly looked fairly complete to me, including both new shows and returning favorites. While bouncing to the YouTube page of one of them to watch the Hi-Q version, I found this wonderfully silly video and had to post it here: The Guild with Do You Want To Date My Avatar.
Once more they are making Wolfman into a movie (not to be confused with Werewolf Women of the SS). This time around the director is Joe Johnston (another project of his is The First Avenger: Captain America, due out in 2011), and Benicio Del Toro gets to grow fang-first into the fur. Since the trailer is now out, it seemed an appropriate time to mention it. And Seth Green knows what happened to Jazz at the end of Transformers II…
One of my favorite podcasts (all right, an Audio Magazine now) just came out with its new edition: Starship Sofa No. 90. This one features a primary story by Elizabeth Bear, poetry by Neil Gaiman actually read by Neil, and a lot more. Another favorite, Fancy Fembot, also has a new edition: The Transformers Episode, although they also talked about Moon, District 9, Avatar, GI Joe, and 2012. Finally, Robert Llewellen of Red Dwarf fame has another new outlet for his CarPool Vlog you should check out. That’s more a watch while you listen, of course.
The folks at SFX have put together a listing of the New Fall Season Roundup of science fiction TV shows. Which I found just a bit strange, as they are all US Broadcast Network TV programs, and SFX is a UK magazine. Nowhere in the list is mention of current or upcoming Brit series, like Afterlife, Misfits, Paradox, or Primeval. More expected was SciFi Wire putting together a nice little chart of Every Sci-Fi Show, except its not; just like the previous list, it only includes US Broadcast Network TV programs. Which is again a bit strange, this time because the web site is owned by a US cable company, but it made no mention of Eureka or Warehouse 13, both of which start in July. Guess I’ll just watch the new trailer for Surrogates instead…
The changes include a smaller budget and a limit of 13 episodes, but even so I was very happy to learn that Dollhouse has been renewed for a second season by Fox. It joins the ranks of Fringe on the same network, Heroes and Medium on NBC, Lost on ABC (for 3 more seasons), and Smallville and Supernatural on the CW. All shows I watch and enjoy, although some more than others. Still undecided are Chuck (decision on Monday, promising), Reaper (perhaps syndicated with cast changes), and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (not very hopeful). There are some excellent shows that have been confirmed canceled, like Eli Stone and Pushing Daises, and some new shows worth looking forward to, like Flash Forward from Robert J. Sawyer, or the remake of V, from the folks who did The 4400 and staring several Firefly actors. So as with all years, it’s a mixed bag. And while I want to see every one of the Undecided shows returning, if there can be only one, I hope it is Chuck.
The Fan Film The Hunt for Gollum premiered at SciFi London yesterday, and was posted online at the same time (in HD, no less). Besides the movie’s home page, you can find it at Daily Motion, which also hosts the Sci-Fi London TV archives. Author Walter Jon Williams has posted a fun video called Mutant Powers, explaining graphically why you don’t want them. He also found the exploding gummi bears video below. And the first trailer is out for District 9, another thinking-person’s sleeper hit in the making, along with Moon.
