The original Primeval series was a bit uneven (more than a bit, and I can give you my season-by-season breakdown some time if you like), but I enjoyed the hell out of a few specific seasons, and still had fun watching the others, even with their flaws. I am now looking forward to Primeval New World, but even though they have run 7 episodes in the UK and Canada, the US does not have a contract for this one until 2013. At some point next year they will begin running this on Syfy, with VOD rights going to Hulu and Hulu Plus, but if there is an announced launch date I have not found it yet. I am kind of surprised that BBC America did not pick it up, considering the ratings they pulled with the original series, but the Syfy Channel is running a lot of programs out of the Vancouver studios that are making it, so they probably got a discount for a bulk order.

Tom Hanks showed up recently on the late night talk show hosted by Craig Ferguson and briefly discussed Doctor Who. Based on this my best guess is he saw a Tom Baker episode involving the Daleks, got completely confused, and never watched another episode. Of course, it would have been even more amusing had he said the Doctor was the British equivalent of Captain Picard, but I take my amusement where I can find it.

A quite tasty series of givaways centering around the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary have begun, and you can join in over at BBC America’s Anglophenia site. This week’s entry runs until midnight Saturday, the 8th of December; they are looking for your favorite quote from the new season seven opening episode, Asylum of the Daleks. But just giving them the quote isn’t what helps you win; you have to tell them WHY it was your favorite quote, and looking at the answers already posted, it looks like a very stiff conpetition indeed. The prizes are itunes downloads and bragging rights, and this weeks winner gets the Best of Christmas Specials program; good luck!

Yes, I know this has been out for weeks, but I don’t care. I just finished watching The Angels Take Manhattan, and now I can not wait to see the x-mas special. There is never enough Doctor Who in the world. And yes, I had not seen that episode before; I saved it until I was able to watch it with a friend.

I have only seen two episodes so far, but Arrow grabbed my attention right away, pretty much from the opening sequence of the first episode. I don’t know if they are going to be able to sustain the tempo and evolve the story the way it should be, but I already care about several of the characters and can’t wait to see what happens next. Meanwhile, the revival of George R. R. Martin’s Beauty and the Beast also started nicely if at a somewhat slower pace, much as the original did. I have only seen one episode of that so far, but Kristin Kreuk has already made the Catherin roll her own. I am less impressed so far with Vincent, but Jay Ryan made a strong enough first showing in the roll that there is hope for him to grow fully into the part (or maybe, just for me to get used to him in it). Of course, it is hard to imagine anyone outdoing Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman as Vincent and Catherin, but I am going to enjoy watching this updated version.

The Firefly Reunion Special will be airing on November 11th at 10PM (except no one is willing to state in which time zone that is: EST? PST? GMT?) on the Science Channel, and I for one intend to be watching! But they recorded 3 hours of footage for this one hour special, so for the Firefly 10th Anniversary: Browncoats Unite special they are releasing another 30 second or so clip online for every 5,000 tweets they get using the hashtag #FireflyNov11. Which means we only need to send out 600,000 tweets to see all of it, as long as you also watch the special on the TV channel. I am ready!
