Almost, at least. The movie I most want to see this Friday isn’t a movie at all; it is the pilot episode of the new TV series The Inhumans. Not only is it in movie theaters, but it is in IMAX format, which means on the biggest screen you can see it on! If it were only in 3D it would be prefect, but I am not going to let a detail like that stop me from seeing it. There is also a fantasy animation called Animal Crackers about a magical circus being released this week, which I would ordinarily be going to see; maybe next weekend.
Marvel’s Inhumans starts running on ABC on September 29th, but they will have a sneak peak in IMAX movie theaters on September 1st which I will have to see. In the meantime, here is their new trailer, fresh from Comic-Con.
After decades of waiting, this week we finally get to see Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets on the big screen! The 5th Element was a sub-plot of this story, the Canteen scene and a lot more from the original Star Wars movie was taken from it; now we finally get to see the first main story from the original French graphic novels. Say Yes to IMAX and 3D for this one, you won’t regret it!
Another no contest week, with Spider-Man: Homecoming not only being the winner, but the only horse in the race, really. You will find me in the 3D IMAX theater for this one.
The western winner this week is The LEGO Batman Movie, absolutely my favorite Batman movie of all time. Although that may change, seeing as Joss Whedon is taking over DC Cinema, including the Justice League movie and the Batgirl movie. Except for some reshoots, the filming is largely completed on Justice League, but Whedon gets to be in charge of the editing; so for the first time in years there is hope of a well rounded movie with humor to go with the dark drama.
Anime brings Chivalry of a Failed Knight: Complete Collection, a story of magical knights, one of whom has no magical powers whatsoever. Did you know Shirow Masamune, the creator of Ghost in the Shell, also did Cyborg Comedies? This week we can also pick up Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn, Complete Series, where cyborgs and scientists fight terrorists.
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is a perfect title, since Marvel recently negotiated getting the character back into the shared universe which includes The Avengers, and that agreement will run through at least 3 more films. It will be in theaters July 7th, and I will be there to see it in the IMAX theater, no doubt about it!
