2011 was an outstanding year, and for me personally the best single event during it was my excursion with a good friend to the UK. I couldn’t possibly list in detail all the things we did and saw, because it was non-stop and overwhelming. So instead I am going to post a few of the more memorable photos.

It is almost x-mas, and as all Doctor Who fans know, that means it is time for the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Entitled The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe, this one takes place in 1941 Dorset, where the widow has fled bringing her two children to avoid the bombing in London.
Happening tomorrow on x-mas eve at 9PM eastern on BBC America we have The Nerdist: Year In Review, hosted by Chris Hardwick. I am not quite sure how Chris became the definitive American nerd for BBC America, but we could be represented by a much less able spokes-geek and I for one am satisfied. The program includes guests Nathan Fillion and Will Wheaton talking about Firefly, a review of Neil Gaimon’s favorite Doctor Who moments, as well as David Tennant and Simon Pegg. Including the results of a two way competition for the Nerd of the Year Award, where you submit a video with your vote embedded in it. What makes it two way is the fact that three of the best videos (best as defined by a combined criteria of most convincing argument and overall geekery) will be featured on BBC America before the special airs.
This one is a hoot! There is a wonderful Dalek Snowman posted to what appears to be the official Doctor Who Tumbler account. Somebody had a lot of fun putting this one together. And as long as we are talking Who, BBC America has posted this prequel to this year’s Xmas special…
Starting today, a brand new series of radio adventures begin for Tom Baker in Doctor Who: Hornets’ Nest. That is the story arc name, which is comprised of five stories, each an hour long. The first half of the first story, The Stuff of Nightmares, part 1 aired today at 6PM London time, and will air again at Midnight. It will be available at that link to listen to for the next 6 days, with a new episode each weekday evening at the same time for the next two weeks. At least that is the usual arrangement, but I am not taking any chances and will be listening to each episode the day it airs. They are also running two other Sci-Fi programs around it; just before the doctor you can here Married, a science fiction comedy about a bachelor who wakes up in a parallel universe to discover he is married there. And just after the Doctor this week is H. P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness, also starting today. You can see the full schedule here, but as I write this there are only 7 hours left to hear episode 1 of married, since that program only runs once a week.
