Cinema Blend has the set of 6 retro-SciFi posters released for Monsters vs. Aliens, and they look pretty good. Rumors abound for a sequel to Blade Runner, but nothing is actually in the works yet.
Finally! John Carter of Mars is coming to a big screen on Earth, according to Quint’s Report over at Ain’t It Cool News. Andrew Stanton, the genius behind Wall-E, is at the helm and shared a panel and some news about the project. And even with the Pixar involvement, this one is going to be live action. I can’t wait!
The classic 60s cult hit The Prisoner is back, thanks to AMC. It’s all in honor of their remake for the 2009 Prisoner Miniseries, but it allows you to do things like watch full episodes online of the original series. While it is still part of the SciFi Channel, SciFi Wire has split off, with a much cleaner, more elegant, and faster-loading home page than the original site, living on its own domain name. This is a reversal from when the SciFi Channel absorbed Sci-Fi Weekly back in 1994, paying the collage students who created and maintained it some serious money for their troubles. Weekly may have evaporated from the independent Net, but some of us remember. Another spin-off property is DVice, which currently has a fun article on the most absurd devices from sci-fi movies. Of course, when you consider the history of ownership of the channel since it began in 1992, and how the mergers changed everything over the years, who can be surprised about how it all turned out?
