First off, a reminder that the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival takes place from the 10th to the 18th of February, but there is new Sci-Fi for folks not in Boston as well this week. Journey 2: the Mysterious Island is based on the Jules Verne book, and is the sequel to the version of Journey to the Center of the Earth from a few years ago. I suspect that is going to be the movie to beat this weekend, but it does have a bit of competition. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is being re-released in is 3D incarnation. This may actually end up being worth watching, because unlike most post-production 3D processing jobs, they have the money to do it right. Now if only they could improve the story and kill Jar-Jar while they are at it.
This Star Wars commercial has Darth Vader in a ladies rest room, the second on an elevator, but what exactly is it advertising? After a little research, it appears that Olleh LTE Warp is either a mobile smart phone, or a data plan service you can buy for that phone, should you happen to live in Korea. Either way, I found the commercials themselves amusing.
According to the folks at Topless Robot, you can now buy Imperial Stout Trooper beer, if you live in a small selection of states in and around New England, and, for some reason, the state of Florida. The original alert may have come from the Beer Advocate team. I don’t actually have a category for food and beverages, so I will tie this post to the Movie category.
The best version of Star Wars yet… at least the best version that tells the original 3 movies in 2 and a quarter minutes using Lego’s. This one’s a hoot; thank you Science Fiction Geeks for the heads up on this one.
The video after that is a real commercial for the TomTom team, who now has an assortment of official voices from Star Wars to feed you your driving instructions. It just cracked me up, so I had to include it today. Thanks to SciFi/Fantasy author Lillith Saintcrow for that link!
This one is just what it says: Animals with Lightsabers. Io9 has an excellent review of last Friday’s Dollhouse, which is a pivotal point in this seasons story arc. Kind of sad that they had one of their lowest viewer numbers just as the story gets dark and twisted. And how about a little Klingon propaganda?
Test your Star Wars movie knowledge at the Star Wars movie quiz at SciFi Scanner (thanks on the heads-up on that one to SF Signal).
