This girl sings in a hoodie… and never lets you see her face. The artist is Nano, the first album is West Ground, and the first track is Born To Be. The second track is Savior Of Song from her collection My First Story. I do like her voice and her style, and I appreciate her Robin Williams reference in her URL (nanonano, a rather Mork-like greeting)!
I couldn’t help it, this song was too much fun. I Kveld Med YLVIS isn’t a band, it is a Norwegian talk/variety show with an attitude, and they originally did this track as another comedy skit on their show. It went somewhat viral, pulling in 359,757,676 views (as of the last time I checked), the equivalent of every man, woman, and child in the US watching it. They brought it to the BBC Children In Need Special produced every year to aid kids who might otherwise not get a chance to grow up, and were joined by a bunch of singers you should recognize; how many of them can you name? And then someone mashed it up with 2013’s other runaway silly song, Gangnam Style from Psy. Just goes to show, sometimes when you get silly the world notices and sings along.
The 50th Anniversary was in November, but there are still a lot of fun things being released for it. One of those things is the from Silva Screen, in three different assortments. The important one to be aware of is the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary presentation, which includes 129 different musical pieces.
This week, a few tracks from the band Handsome Ken’ya (Sugimoto Kousuke), a less than subtle Japanese group/person. The first piece is Inferiority Beat, the next I Sing In My Own Way, also called I Sing So Much. Then we get Decision Speed, and finally Full Moon Party rounds out the set, a very tasty guitar riff instrumental.
How can 2NE1, the band who did so many amazing songs and my favorite Korean Girl Group, have any doubts about themselves? But apparently they do, as the interview released earlier this week indicates. Of course, this amazing foursome also put out the song UGLY, which I assumed was a diatribe against the advertising companies who spend millions of dollars every week to convince women they will never be attractive if they don’t buy their sponsor’s products. But perhaps I misunderstood what was going on in that song; or perhaps this is all a ploy to get more votes in the current World Music Awards competition, for which they have been nominated in 4 categories including Best Band, Best Song, and Best Live Show. Or maybe they just want to sell more tickets for their AON World Tour. I don’t really care which choice turns out to be the real one, as long as they keep generating more incredible music for us to enjoy!
The first video by Qooland is called Sea Lice And Bear, more or less. It was posted 3 weeks ago, and is from their upcoming 6-song EP being released on February 12th, called something like Tear Your Classroom To Pieces. Sea Lice is the 5th track on the new EP, while Bear is the 6th, they did a nice job of melding them together. The second track came out almost a year ago on their full album Telecaster so you’ll still play. I have to point out these are my own interpretation’s of the Google Translate results, I don’t read Japanese yet, and still only have between 50 and 100 words of spoken vocabulary, so I have to interpolate a lot. The music is fun, though, and you get some interesting related j-rock results when you plug the band name in over at Last FM.
