Those two are really a single concept, but for different worldviews. Broadband is a way to connect to the world, and Ars Technica has the best example of how the Broadband Recovery Bill will play out in Science Fiction terms. Cisco views it from the how to make it work perspective, and Gartner takes the how is it working aspect. Neither is right, or wrong; just looking at the reality through their own set of filters, for two very different conclusions. As I consider both viewpoints valid (if limited), I thought I should just link them here, so you can read and consider. How does that fit in with Riverworld? The Philip Jose Farmer Riverworld series is all about exploring our unlimited potential as human beings, with all the time in the world to do so. The new tech, with or without the federal grant money, is another step towards that same goal. If the new team at SyFy does half as much with the classic series as it deserves, it will also inspire us to create the future. Ad Astra!

In April we will have the first new Red Dwarf in many years, and Dave TV has now posted the schedule. They are running the three new episodes one each night of Easter weekend, along with a selection of the best classic episodes and a behind-the-scenes special. SFX is in the middle of it, running 50 copies only with a special Red Dwarf cover that will be featured in the show. To find one, you need to hunt the newsstands in the UK. The DVD will be released on DVD on June 15th in England, but I have not found a US release date yet.

The first teaser came out in February (shown below), but now the first English language Live Action trailer of Blood, The Last Vampire is out, and SFX has it. It opens in Japan on May 29th, the UK on June 12th, and France on June 17th. I haven’t found the US release date yet, although Star News of Korea claims Universal bought the US rights, and plan to release it this month (Thanks to the Anime News Network for translating that bit for me). The team behind it did a few other movies you might have heard of, including Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; combine them with the excellent story and fully developed characters of the original Anime series, and I am expecting a major movie experience. Rope of Silicon has the Japanese trailer as well as the international version; I have to install the Kanji character set on my computer before I can find the link to it on the official movie home page.
