I have lost all entries with tonight’s computer crash, but here are a few of them I managed to recover. Starting with the Watchmen News, that Fox gave up trying to kill the Watchmen movie in return for a cut of the take. We already knew about the Live-Action version of Cowboy Bebop, but did you know what other live action versions of these stories are coming to town? Disney brought over a pablomized version of Mulan, but the Chinese Government has to step in on something that culturally important to them. They called themselves the China Film Group, and built it with Xinhua this time around. Then there is the Ninja Scroll live action remake, another major milestone. And just in case you haven’t gotten today’s dose of Silly yet, get ready for the live-action version of Marvin The Martian. Does anybody besides me find it scary that Fox and the Chinese Government have so many interests in common, the end result being they are only in it for the money and don’t care about the rest of us (like their citizens/customers)?

The Science Fiction Poetry Association has announced the winners of the 2008 Dwarf Stars contest. As the name implies, this competition is for very short poems (10 lines or less), which allows them to post all 3 of the winners on the awards page. They have also opened nominations for the 2009 Rhysling Awards. The Guardian ran a nice story about Steampunk, which looks very much like the author recently got his hands on a copy of Jeff and Ann VandeerMeer’s instant classic anthology of the same name and was amazed. As well he should have been; I told everyone last May this was a book they did not want to miss, and ordered my own copy before it hit the bookstores.

In England, a SciFi fan sparked a bomb scare when police responded to a report of a man with a crossbow. When they got to the fans house they called in the bomb squad, afraid that the things they didn’t recognize might go boom. There is a new Watchmen trailer on Myspace. It gives a bit of the story for those who haven’t read the book, and looks really good. But that may be all the Watchmen we get for a while, as Fox fights to delay its release, once again proving Fox hates science fiction.
