The nominees have been announced for the UK’s National Television Awards, and I am happy to report they include Ashes to Ashes, Deamons, Doctor Who, Primeval, and Torchwood entries among them. All five shows are up against each other in the Best Drama category. John Barrowman, Philip Glenister, Eve Myles, Hannah Spearritt, and David Tennant are vying for the Best Drama Performance spot. There are many more categories, I need to go through the list in detail. But I had to relay this bit as well; the creater of Blackadder will be writting a Doctor Who episode in which a historic figure battles a monster. Keeping my fingers crossed that the figure is Blackadder himself!
According to SFX, the original Prisoner TV series is going to be showing on the big screen, in order, for an all-night marathon. Unfortunately for me that will be at the Prince Charles Cinema in the UK, but if your on that side of the pond don’t miss this one!
You can see the To Aru Kagaku no Railgun trailer over at the official web page; the Anime starts airing in October in Japan, and will hopefully be imported to the US soon. Davies is already writing season 4 of Torchwood, according to this SF Universe take on a new Torchwood Magazine article. And DVD Review posts step-by-step instructions on how to recreate a famous movie werewolf scene.
Doctor Who got into the Guinness book of world record as the most successful sci-fi show ever. I think it is a well deserved the honor, although I heard at least one Feed reporter on G4 with a dissenting opinion.
Word is that Children of Earth did so well, both in the UK and US markets, that a fourth season is a go. Even though a lot of the cast has been killed off (starting with the first episode), I’m looking forward to another season. Over at SF Signal, a round of Shatner performing Palin that boarders on the surreal.
According to this report from the BBC, fans have started a campaign to save Ianto Jones. Part of the Torchwood team, they killed him off last night in episode 4 of Children of Earth, or a few weeks ago if you live in the UK. Here in the US, The Prisoner won’t air until November, but AMC had a little taste for folks at Comic-Con today; check it out:
