Obviously The Dark Knight Rises is the movie of choice this weekend, but at select theaters you can also see the Dark Knight Trilogy. Apparently they were pretty impressed by what Marvel pulled off with their marathon leading up to the midnight release of The Avengers, so Warner Bros stole the idea. Batman Begins starts on Thursday evening the 19th at around 6PM with the new film playing at midnight, and the entire run of three movies will take 8 hours and 45 minutes.
Take a deep breath and focus as Helen McCarthy presents the history of Manga from its beginnings in 1860’s Japan to the current crises it faces from pirates powered by broadband in a mere 8 minutes and 22 seconds. This is one of a series of 12 presentations on Japanese Creativity put together by the British Design and Art Direction educational charity, also known as B&AD. If you don’t know who the non-profit educational charity B&AD is, the next video put together by BBC4 will give you a glimpse into the organization. Finally, just for balance, a video of Helen as part of an Anime Filk group at a Con in Iowa in 2010. Thanks to Crunchyroll for the heads up on this one.
This is probably my favorite version of the Spider Man Theme Song to date…
If you are a fan of Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether, you will enjoy this interview. If you are not, you should immediately hop over to the Archives and start at the beginning and read your way up to the present installment. And if you missed them, did you also miss Girl Genius? Shame on you, go back and read them both from the beginning!
Obviously The Amazing Spider-Man is the choice this time, with a very unusual release schedule. It hits the big screen tomorrow to try to pull in the holiday audience, and Tuesday releases are not the norm. My first thought was they meant midnight Tuesday night (Wednesday morning, and a Wednesday release date is pretty normal), but when I checked the site the first showings will be at 12:01AM Tuesday morning. Regardless of how offbeat the timing is, I am looking forward to this one.
I am pretty sure both of these had already been released to tease us all, but they were posted this week as if it was the first time, so what the hell; they are still fun to watch. Both of these movies are relaunches or re-imaginings; not sequels because they are just hitting reset on the franchises and starting over, not giving us something new. Still, a trailer for Spider Man, and another for Total Recall, and yes, I have every intention of being in the theaters to see them on the big screen.
