Correction: Justice League Dark and Dreamwork’s Trolls both come out this week rather than last. Anime has Young Black Jack: Complete Collection and the truly absurd (to the point I count it as a fantasy and therefore genre) Nichijou: My Ordinary Life Complete Collection coming out this week. In addition, the complete collections of both D-Frag! and Danganronpa are coming out in S.A.V.E editions.
With Scarlett Johansson, Beat Takeshi, and Pilou Asbæk heading up Section 9, the live action version of Ghost In The Shell is a movie I have been waiting roughly 25 years for someone to make. Only a few more months to go before we get to see it! The Super Bowl spot has some new footage we haven’t seen before.
Based on the 2010 Kevin Brooks novel, Netflix’s iBoy should be a wild ride. It looks like they did it as a single movie rather than a series, and you can watch it on Friday the 27th. Yes, that does mean the end of next week.
FX Network has released 4 new Legion teasers to get us geared up for the premier season which starts February 8th. I am a big fan of Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, and the three on Netflix, AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Daredevil. If this maintains that same level of quality, I have no doubt it will be a winner.
Ghost in the Shell Manga is how that whole universe started, when Masamune Shirow’s original graphic novel came out. But until this month, it has never been released digitally. Now it has, with the folks at Kodansha Comics offering up Ghost in the Shell in English digital format for the first time. While you can get that today, the The Ghost in the Shell Deluxe Edition won’t be coming out until January 31st, to help us all gear up for the new movie. This will be the hardcover definitive new edition supervised by Shirow himself, in the original right-to-left format with Japanese sound effects and with a ton of brand new bonus content.
Gintama is the story of an Edo era Samurai in a Japan where Aliens have invaded and taken over the Earth. Skyscrapers and traffic jams came to Kyoto centuries ahead of schedule, and the simple life was over. The manga and anime have gone on for hundreds of episodes, and now we finally get a Live Action Gintama Movie bringing this excellent series to the big screen. It looks like the release date is around July of 2017.
