Wye Oak played quite a tasty set when they were on KEXP last month, and after the 15th time I went back and re-listened to it I realized I needed to share it. The band is a couple of very interesting people from Baltimore, MD, named Andy Stack and Jenn Wasner, who have had tracks included in shows like The Walking Dead and the US version of Being Human. Check out this performance and see if you don’t also conclude they are worth tracking down and hearing in person.

A few more tracks from DOLL$ BOXX; the first is Karakuri Town, the second is Monopoly, both from last year’s debut album. They have a new music video release this week from their new disc Doll$ Collection that I would include here, but they don’t make it embeddable. You will have to watch it on NicoNico using your free or premium account login.

This track is from Sashida Ikuya, who’s style seems to be buried in sappy ballads, but somehow he produced this interesting blend of Jazz and Rock, with the occasional dash of Pop. The song is called Spam, and it is the kind of tune that lodges itself in your head so you find yourself playing it over and over. To bad he can’t crank out a bunch of these; or maybe I just can’t find them with a search. It may be like Godley and Creme, who had an amazing run of killer songs with their bands 10CC and Godley and Creme, but when you search for them you only ever find two songs: I’m Not In Love by 10CC, and Cry by Godley and Creme. Songs like Rubber Bullets and Snack Attack never seem to come up.

If you were there, you know there is no way to make anyone who wasn’t understand the experience. This is the set that closed the show, on Monday morning, August 18th, at 8AM. Of course, it was supposed to happen on Sunday night, but the entire event was running on hippy time, and by the time it became Hendrix’s turn, that rather elastic time frame had stretched more than a bit. The video quality is poor, and the portable audio recording technology of the time was never more than half as good as hearing a live song recorded in a studio, either of which couldn’t hold a candle to what you actually heard in person. But I just find it amazing that I can actually hear this again, let alone see it, and had to share it. The first choice is audio, thanks to Archive.Org, the second video from Vimeo, and the credit for the heads up goes to Open Culture.

They took the video down that I had embedded here, so removed the embed command string. I am guessing they only had it posted through the anniversary of the actual event.

The Disney movie Into The Woods won’t be in theaters until Christmas, but the teaser trailer which came out recently makes it look like it might be a fun film to watch. It takes four classic Brothers Grimm stories and ties them together with a new tale written just for the movie, bringing the whole thing up to contemporary times. A lot of humor and a few good tunes round out the presentation, which has one central theme: be careful what you wish for.

Base Ball Bear had a new CD come out in June, and as always they have some rocking tunes on it. The first one is I did not like so much from the new release, the second is Senkou Hanabi, which came out in 2013 as a single. If you like these, they have many more for you to enjoy.
