A few tunes from an interesting band. The first is Pontiacs doing Cold Fingered Girl, used as the OP for the anime Level E. The second is The Pontiacs song Shinjuku, the third their song about America. I won’t bother to identify the last few; if you keep listening that far you must already know you love this band, you will track down the titles yourself. They sound a bit like what would happen if T-Rex had 10 Years Afters love child, and put it up for adoption in Tokyo.
I couldn’t actually find the Level E OP to embed here, but I did manage to find the full song used in that opening sequence, and it is kick ass; Cold Finger Girl as performed by Chiaki Kuriyama. If she looks familiar, it’s probably because she played killer girl Gogo Yubari in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill, and real fans should also know her from Kinji Fukasaku’s Battle Royale. The final video of the set is a very rare interview with Hiroya Oku, the creator of Gantz, and Chiaki Kuriyama wearing her Fangirl hat, talking about Anime, Manga, and (not a surprise) Gantz. As far as I know this is the only interview with Hiroya Oku, or at least the only one with English subtitles I have found so far, and until this I didn’t know that Chiaki was an Otaku, either.
Too funny for words. Glad someone finally finally put these together the way they deserved to be. I always thought Art was a bit stiff and robotic anyways, now I know why.
This animated short film by Tomas Vergara brings you an enjoyable video that doesn’t use spoken words to tell its story. And you really don’t need them with this one; all you have to do is watch.
Bet you didn’t know Psy’s world wide surprise hit Gangnam Style had a parallel recording, called Oppa Is Just My Style. It features the actress/singer Hyuna, who was also in his video, just like he is in hers of this same song. If you are a fan of energetic dancing, you should check out the rest of Psy’s videos; the man is an absolute maniac on the dance floor, at least in the majority of his music videos. My favorite parody is still Klingon Style, of course. The second video was one he put together to honor the Korean competitors for this years Olympics, and it is both kick ass and shows you a completely different side of his musical talents. I wanted to add a third MV of his here, We Are The One, but could not find the original studio video version on line to embed. They are running it several times this week as part of the Psy Music Block on M-Net, so you still have a chance to see it. BTW, Psy is the primary judge on Superstar K4 so expect lots of aspiring artists there to do versions of Gangnam Style. Another more serious song you can watch online but which I could not embed is Urbanite, it is quite nicely done.
Another wonderful music-based animation from the folks at Esme Movies. I don’t know where these folks get their inspiration from, but the music is always quality and the animations are always quite well done. If you have the time, you might want to sample their entire collection.
