This amazing video, called A Slice of Life, was put together by the folks at the GE Show. The premise of the program is to make the technology that is changing our day to day lives understandable in ways everyone can understand. The videos are short, punchy, and full of good information. The one presented here is the 7th in the series and demonstrates how an MRI works by giving you an analog equivalent; everyday objects (mostly food) are sliced up and photographed, the images then organized so you can view it in depth and over time. The soundtrack was nicely chosen to put a tempo to the process. Thanks to Laughing Squid for the heads up on this one.

The folks at Production IG have released yet another sci-fi app in the form of the Ghost in the Shell: Optical Camouflage Camera. This one allows you to snap pictures or capture video that turns transparent against the background, as the characters did in the original GITS movie. To make it even tastier, they are throwing in free backgrounds from the GITS: SSS movie for you to position your people and objects in front of, to maximize the fun. It is currently on sale for $1.99 during the roll-out period, but expect the price to go up after a bit. While you are in there, you might want to grab their previous two apps which are running at 99 cents each. The first is the Character Music Player from Ghost In The Shell: S.A.C. Section9, the second is the 3D Cyber Clock. While I like all of these apps, only the first allows you to create your own original video.

The other app worth mentioning is FiLMiC Pro, which gives you a bunch of functionality for enhancing your HD video capture. It is a bit pricy at $2.99 compared to most other apps (or at least most I find interesting), so check out the new stuff it gives you before making your decision. *grin*

The AV Club is an interesting web site that does a lot of things, one of which is the Undercover Project each year, in which a band covers a song by a different band. As soon as a band covers a song, it is removed from the list of songs to be covered. One of the choices this year was the They Might Be Giants song Birdhouse In Your Soul, which was covered by Titus Andronicus. Some folks didn’t like that version, but many did, including John Flansburgh, who dragged his band into the studio to cover yet another song on the Undercovered list, Chumbawamba’s Tubthumping. If you didn’t already know, John’s band is They Might Be Giants. There were a ton of other great bands doing covers there as well (what a surprise). Another kick ass song from a great band is Whirring from The Joy Formidable; Enjoy!

They should actually call themselves Key of Silly and Politically Incorrect, but they have put together a bunch of geek-oriented music, including the triptych presented here. This is a song in three parts, with part one being Sexy Cyborg from Another Dimension, part two is Moon Girl, and it concludes with Tron Girl. Thanks to Barely Political for the great attitude!

The band is called Chameleon Circuit, and their music is all about Doctor Who. The first song in this sample set is Type 40, which is all about the Tardis itself, and the second is An Awful Lot of Running Around, which is pretty much the Companions job description.
