After quite a long wait, Guardians Of The Galaxy is finally on the big screen this weekend. This group of criminals may be the only hope civilization has left, and boy, is civilization in trouble! It is not your only choice for the weekend; if you love Rock-N-Roll, you should also have Get On Up> on your list of films to check out, so you can get an idea of the struggle James Brown had getting his music out to the people. And Outpost 37 will be available in a limited number of theaters, a movie about a documentary crew who follows an elite unit of soldiers in the wake of an alien invasion. So you have a range of interesting choices this time around.

We get The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on the big screen this week, with all that excellent spidey action and banter we have come to expect. He gets a couple of super villains to defeat this time around, and begins to suspect they have something in common. This 5th venture into the Spiderman franchise looks like it is going to be quite the fun ride. Bad Johnson is a comedic fantasy in which a mans penis leaves his body and takes on human form. As you might expect, that one is in limited release. In even more limited release is Protector 2, original title Tom Yum Goong 2, another elephant training martial arts series from Thailand. Thai martial arts are a bit different than the Chinese and Japanese forms we are all familiar with, and this film stars Tony Jaa of Ong-Bak fame. His parents are elephant trainers, which explains why the animals are in so many of his films.

This is an interesting choice; by going with the 1980 Days of Future Past story line, they get to merge the three original X-Men movies with the reboot of the franchise from First Class. I like the thought that we haven’t seen the last of the original lineup yet, and I have to appreciate the timing, since the future they traveled back from was 2013. It will be on the big screen on May 23rd.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is a bit different than the other Marvel film outings so far, and I am definitely looking forward to it. Let’s see… a bunch of misfits who ended up together because no one else understood them, and then the Galaxy As We Know It was threatened with destruction and they are the only ones who can save us from the danger. Yep, sure enough, that was never used as a Marvel plot line or premise before. 🙂 Seriously, though, I WILL be in the theaters on opening day, or at least opening weekend. I have really been waiting for this one for a while.
